The WBC Ukraine office talked to Bohdan Shtonda (8-0, 4 KOs) on the eve of his bout with Albanian Ermal Hadribeaj (17-0-1, 7 KOs) for the WBC International Super Welterweight Title, which will take place on 27 January in Germany and will last 10 rounds.
- Bohdan, how do you feel on the eve of the fight?
I feel good. We are focused on the bout and are determined to win. We didn't have much time to train enough for this bout, but we are ready for this challenge. I am now at the final stage of shaping up.
- How do you assess your strength compared to your opponent's?
My opponent is older than me and has more experience. He is currently ranked 40th in the division's world rankings. In general, my opponent is strong, so this bout is a real challenge for me and an opportunity to gain valuable experience and improve my position in the rankings.
- You missed 2022 completely, and in 2023 you had only 1 bout. What has changed in your boxing style? How will the audience see you in the bout?
In February 2022, I was supposed to have the World Youth title bout. Unfortunately, on the day of our departure, russia attacked our country. The bout was cancelled. Then there was a break in the career, and in 2023 my team was able to organise a bout for me. Now they have managed to organise a title bout. Today I'm at the stage of my career where I need to box as often as possible. I'm hungry for challenges, I'm hungry for victories. What has changed in my style? You will see. I will try to show myself in the best possible condition.
- If you win, will you move on to the WBC World Title?
God bless us and we will win this bout, then we will be able to move towards the World Title. This bout can give me a big jump in my career. I hope that we will get not only t the WBC title, but also the belts of prestigious organisations. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. If it is Lord's will, we will win the upcoming bout and move on to our goals, and proudly represent Ukraine on the international arena.
