On August 3rd, the world boxing family celebrated the first centenary of the Spanish Boxing Federation.
It is known that Boxing started in Spain in the years 1875-76, in Barcelona, led by Professor Bergé, who had learned it from a certain boxer from Mahón who was a crew member of a British ship. It was not until 1910 until it began. to be “informally” regulated under the direction of Ramón Larruy and an enthusiastic group of “la boxe” enthusiasts.
In 1920, the Spanish Federation of Self-Defense Sports was officially established, with the activities of said Federation being fencing, Greco-Roman wrestling and boxing. The Board of Directors of the Federation was: President, Ramón Larruy. He was also a businessman, trainer, boxing teacher at the Popular Encyclopedic Athenaeum and, it is also said that, when it was necessary due to the absence of any of the participants, he would step into the ring.
On August 30, 1922, the clubs from Barcelona, meet at the Barcelona Boxing Club (Conde de Asalto 58, first) and there the Spanish Boxing Federation was founded, with Lorenzo Antonio Ramonet as President and a Board Directors of: Vice-president, José Clols; Secretary, Ramón Larruy; Treasurer, Ignacio Amat; Accountant, Jaime Piera; Vocals, Masip, Cánovas, Cervera, Comas, and López.
One of the first assignments was to determine the professional Champions, initially designating those who were considered the best based on merit and who were favored by the public and specialists. The first championship at welterweight was held, between the one who had been considered Champion, Joe Valls and Pedro Sáez over twelve rounds.
During its 100-year history, the Spanish Boxing Federation has produced more than a dozen world champions and more than 50 European champions.
Today, our family in Spain celebrates this great feat with multiple activities and the World Boxing Council congratulates in a special way all the directors and members of this Honorable Federation who have devoted their lives so that this project. A century of achievement.
We also congratulate to its current president, Mr. Felipe Martínez Martínez for his outstanding management and of course to all the affiliated fighters who have brought glory to Spain with great passion and pride, among the most outstanding: Joana Pastrana, Kiko Martínez, José Legra and of course to the legendary “Lince de Parla” Javier Castillejos, the greatest WBC Champion of Spain.

Ukrainian Yaroslav Mykhalushko knocked out his opponent in the 4th round and became the Interim WBC Youth World Welterweight Champion.
