WBC Rankings: May Positions of Ukrainian Boxers
In May, the World Boxing Council (WBC) updated its world rankings across all weight divisions. For Ukrainian boxers, the new rankings brought several notable changes — some fighters significantly improved their positions after recent victories, while others remained among the top contenders in their divisions.
In the Heavyweight division (over 101.605 kg), Oleksandr Usyk remains the WBC world champion. On May 23, the Ukrainian star is scheduled to face Rico Verhoeven. Meanwhile, WBC International champion Andrii Novytskyi made one of the biggest jumps among Ukrainian fighters, climbing from No. 25 to No. 11 in the rankings. Tsotne Rogava, who is set to fight on May 15, dropped from No. 38 to No. 39.
In the Bridgerweight division (up to 101.605 kg), WBC Francophone champion Oleksandr Hrytsiv moved up from No. 6 to No. 4 and remains among the leading contenders in the division. Liubomyr Pinchuk kept his No. 15 position, while Vitalii Stalchenko improved from No. 27 to No. 24.
In Cruiserweight (up to 90.719 kg), Ramazan Muslimov moved up from No. 35 to No. 34 in the WBC rankings. His next bout is scheduled for May 23.
In the Light Heavyweight division (up to 79.379 kg), Daniel Lapin retained his No. 15 position, while former world champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk stayed at No. 17.
In Super Middleweight (up to 76.204 kg), Sergiy Derevyanchenko remained at No. 8 in the WBC rankings.
In Middleweight (up to 72.575 kg), Fedor Cherkashyn held onto the No. 5 spot, while Serhii Bohachuk remained No. 6. However, Bohachuk suffered a defeat in his bout today, which could affect his position in the next ranking update.
n the Super Welterweight division (up to 69.853 kg), WBC Francophone champion Maksym Molodan climbed from No. 37 to No. 29 after defeating Argentina’s Elias Mauricio Haedo and successfully defending his title.
In Welterweight (up to 66.678 kg), Karen Chukhadzhian improved from No. 12 to No. 11 and is scheduled to fight on May 15. One of the most impressive rises among Ukrainian fighters came from Yaroslav Mykhalushko, who moved from No. 30 to No. 22 after defeating Zoravor Petrosyan and retaining his WBC International and WBC Francophone titles.
In the Lightweight division (up to 61.235 kg), Danylo Honcharuk dropped out of the WBC rankings compared to the April update.
The May WBC rankings once again highlight the strong presence of Ukrainian fighters on the international stage. Several boxers continue moving closer to title opportunities, while recent victories in major bouts have helped Ukrainians strengthen their positions among the world’s top fighters.
