WBC RANKINGS: AUGUST POSITIONS OF UKRAINIAN BOXERS
The World Boxing Council (WBC) has released its updated world rankings for August 2026. For Ukrainian boxers, the most significant changes came in two weight divisions. Vladyslav Sirenko returned to the WBC world rankings following his impressive victory over Otto Wallin, while Sergii Derevyanchenko dropped out of the rankings after his July bout against Jalil Hackett. In the remaining divisions, Ukrainian fighters either maintained their positions or moved by just one place.
Heavyweight
In the Heavyweight division (over 101.605 kg), the biggest news of the August rankings is the return of Vladyslav Sirenko (23-1, 20 KOs). Following his impressive victory over Sweden’s Otto Wallin, the Ukrainian re-entered the WBC rankings at No. 27.
The bout took place on July 26 in New York during a Zuffa Boxing event. It was one of the most important fights of Sirenko’s professional career. His opponent, Otto Wallin, is an experienced contender who has previously shared the ring with Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Derek Chisora.
Defeating an opponent of Wallin’s caliber earned Sirenko his place back in the WBC rankings. His return to the world rankings is one of the standout developments in the August update and reinforces his ambitions of re-establishing himself among the leading heavyweights.
WBC International Champion Andrii Novytskyi (16-0, 12 KOs) retained his No. 12 position in the world rankings.
Tsotne Rogava (13-1, 8 KOs) dropped one place from No. 35 to No. 36.
Bridgerweight
In the Bridgerweight division (up to 101.605 kg), Ukrainian boxers continue to occupy strong positions.
WBC Francophone Champion Oleksandr Hrytsiv (13-0, 9 KOs) retained the No. 2 ranking and remains one of the leading contenders for a world title opportunity.
Liubomyr Pinchuk (17-4-2, 11 KOs) held on to the No. 13 position.
Vitalii Stalchenko (14-1-1, 8 KOs) was the only Ukrainian in the division to improve his standing, moving up from No. 22 to No. 21.
Light Heavyweight
In the Light Heavyweight division (up to 79.379 kg), Oleksandr Gvozdyk (21-3, 17 KOs) remained at No. 18 in the WBC world rankings.
Super Middleweight
The biggest setback for Ukraine in the August rankings came in the Super Middleweight division, where Sergii Derevyanchenko (16-7, 11 KOs) dropped out of the WBC rankings.
In late July, the Ukrainian competed in a ten-round bout against American Jalil Hackett. Despite his extensive experience at the elite level and his status as one of Ukraine’s most accomplished professionals of the past decade, Derevyanchenko lost by unanimous decision. Following the defeat, he was removed from the WBC rankings in the Super Middleweight division.
His departure from the rankings represents one of the most notable changes for Ukrainian boxing in the August update.
Middleweight
In the Middleweight division (up to 72.575 kg), Fedor Cherkashyn (28-1, 18 KOs) slipped from No. 4 to No. 5.
Serhii Bohachuk (27-4, 24 KOs) also dropped one place and is now ranked No. 17.
Super Welterweight
WBC Francophone Champion Maksym Molodan (12-1, 7 KOs) improved his standing by moving up from No. 26 to No. 25.
Welterweight
In the Welterweight division (up to 66.678 kg), Karen Chukhadzhian (26-4, 14 KOs) dropped to No. 24.
WBC International and WBC Francophone Champion Yaroslav Mykhalushko (13-0, 9 KOs) also lost one position and is now ranked No. 25.
The next major international appearance by a Ukrainian boxer will come on August 29, when Denys Berinchyk returns to the ring to face Britain’s Sam Noakes. It will be Berinchyk’s first fight after a lengthy layoff, and the result could have a significant impact on future WBC world rankings.
