WBC Ukraine: Celebrating 4 Years and a Year of Major Boxing Triumphs

Four years ago, on August 10, the official office of the World Boxing Council — WBC Ukraine — opened its doors. Since then, it has grown into a powerful center for supporting and promoting Ukrainian boxers, a stage for title fights, and a gateway to the global boxing community. The period from September 2024 to July 2025 became one of the most successful in the organization’s history — marked by championship performances, international victories, and unforgettable sporting moments.
September 2024 — Season Kickoff with Championship Bouts
On September 14 in Dnipro, the WBC Ukraine Cruiserweight title was contested between Vitalii Stalchenko and Oleksii Zhuk. It was an uncompromising clash with plenty of heavy exchanges, ending in Stalchenko’s victory and championship belt.
Just two weeks later, on September 28 in Lviv, Ukrainian talent Yaroslav Mykhalushko delivered an explosive performance against Mexico’s Oscar Molina Espinoza for the WBC Youth Welterweight title. A fourth-round knockout crowned him the new champion. On the same day in Kyiv, Andrii Boryshpolets defeated Nazri Rahimov (WBC Silver Youth) to capture the WBC Ukraine Super Lightweight belt, showing composure and control in every round.
December 2024 — Symbolic Decisions and Golden Victories
From December 8–14, the 62nd WBC Convention was held in Hamburg, bringing historic changes: the WBC belt was redesigned with four rows of flags instead of three, and the Russian flag was removed — a symbolic moment for Ukrainian fans.
On December 12, Bohdan Myronets became WBC Francophone Heavyweight champion with a dominant performance.
On December 14, Yanis Kurylenko captured the WBC Ukraine Super Lightweight title from Andrii Boryshpolets, paving the way for a future rematch.
On December 22 in Saudi Arabia, Oleksandr Usyk once again defeated Tyson Fury in their rematch, while Ukrainians Serhii Bohachuk, Andrii Novytskyi, and Daniil Lapin also claimed victories, cementing Ukraine’s place on the global boxing stage. Bohachuk’s gear was later auctioned at Yegor Holub’s charity event, with all proceeds donated to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
February 2025 — A New Chapter in Ukrainian Boxing
On February 8 in Kyiv, Ukraine hosted its first-ever WBC women’s title fight: Anastasiia Petrenko defeated Oksana Bondarenko to win the WBC Francophone Bantamweight belt, making history. That same evening, both Maksym Molodan and Yaroslav Mykhalushko added victories, with Mykhalushko dropping his opponent in the very first round.
March 2025 — Double Championship Glory in Lviv
On March 29, Oleksandr Hrytsiv claimed the WBC Francophone Bridgerweight title by defeating Germany’s Rad Rashid. That evening, Arsenii Reznychenko beat Andrii Tsiura to become the new WBC Ukraine Super Welterweight champion.
Spring 2025 — WBC Grand Prix and International Challenges
In April, Ukrainian boxers began their campaign in the prestigious WBC Grand Prix. Four fighters — Danylo Lozan, Petro Frolov, Dmytro Rybalka, and Tsotne Rogava — advanced to the third stage, set for August.
On May 1 in Pretoria, Serhii Radchenko fought for the WBC Bridgerweight World Title against Kevin Lerena, but after being knocked down in the third round, the South African retained the belt.
On May 18, Serhii Bohachuk defeated Michael Fox, maintaining his #1 spot in the WBC world rankings.
June 2025 — Rematches, Title Defenses, and New Champions
A major highlight was the launch of WBC University in Ukrainian, creating opportunities for referees and judges. Soon after, three Ukrainians — Ihor Kalenchenko, Illia Zavyalov, and Ruslan Myshko — completed the program and received international WBC certification, marking global recognition of their professionalism.
On June 7, Vasyl Chebotar defeated Nazri Rahimov to win the WBC Youth Super Welterweight title. That same evening, Yanis Kurylenko defended his Super Lightweight belt in a highly anticipated rematch against Andrii Boryshpolets.
On June 11, Ramazan Muslimov defeated Oleksii Zhuk to capture the WBC Ukraine Cruiserweight title.
On June 28, Yaroslav Mykhalushko won the WBC Francophone Welterweight title after a hard-fought battle against Albania’s Merinton Karaxha. That night also saw successful defenses by Anastasiia Petrenko and Arsenii Reznychenko, who defeated Sara Marjanovic and Viktor Hurov respectively.
July 2025 — The Pinnacle of the Year
On July 19 in London, Oleksandr Usyk scored a fifth-round knockout over Daniel Dubois in their rematch, becoming a two-time undisputed world champion. This triumph symbolically capped off a year of great victories for WBC Ukraine on both national and international stages.
Four years of WBC Ukraine — four years of inspiration, growth, and triumph. We are proud of each of our champions and look confidently to the future, where the Ukrainian flag will continue to fly high at the summits of world boxing.
