WBC Ratings Appeal Submitted by Serhii Bohachuk

The World Boxing Council has received a ratings appeal by promoter Tom Loeffler concerning Super Welterweight boxer Serhii Bohachuk. The WBC has referred the appeal to the WBC Ratings Appeals Committee for evaluation and ruling.
Mr. Loeffler’s appeal was directed to the Chairman of the WBC Ratings Committee, and reads as follows:
“Dear Dean
I’m writing to you about Serhii Bohachuk world rating
He fought an official eliminator for the mandatory position against Ishmael Davis in Riyadh last year. He has been patiently waiting for the mandatory to be ordered.
He has been staying active and is scheduled to fight Brandon Adam’s on the big September 13 Canelo Crawford show.
In the latest ratings I noticed that Jaron Ennis was put in at #1 above Serhii, now at #2. That doesn’t make sense if Serhii is the mandatory challenger. It also doesn’t make sense as Jaron Ennis has never fought in the 154 pound division yet. A third reason it doesn’t make sense is that Jaron Ennis is fighting for an official WBA elimination fight in his next fight. I thought the WBC rules take fighters out of the ratings that fight for an eliminator for a different organization
Here is an article with quotes from Eddie Hearn talking about the WBA official eliminator
In light of the above mentioned points, I would respectfully request the ratings committee to restore Serhii Bohachuk to his rightful rating at #1 as the mandatory challenger to the champion
Thank you Tom”
The WBC’s ratings appeal procedure, has, since the year 2000, mirrored the ratings appeal requirements of the USA’s “Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act”, which reads as follows:
- 6307c. Sanctioning organizations
… (b) Appeals process
A sanctioning organization shall not be entitled to receive any compensation, directly or indirectly, in connection with a boxing match, until it provides the boxers with notice that the sanctioning organization shall, within 7 days after receiving a request from a boxer questioning that organization’s rating of the boxer—
(1) provide to the boxer a written explanation of the organization’s criteria, its rating of the boxer, and the rationale or basis for its rating (including a response to any specific questions submitted by the boxer); and
(2) submit a copy of its explanation to the Association of Boxing Commissions.
As in all previous appeals, the WBC will comply with its appeal rules, and those of the Ali Act, and will notify the result of this process as soon as it is finalized.
