WBC Grand Prix – Ukrainian Results in the Quarterfinals

The fourth stage of the prestigious WBC Grand Prix in Riyadh proved to be a challenging one for the Ukrainian team. Four of our fighters entered the quarterfinals, but only one will advance to the semifinals.

The first Ukrainian to step into the ring was Tsotne Rogava, who faced Bosnian Ahmed Krnjić in the Heavyweight division. The bout was tense and closely contested. After six rounds, the judges’ scorecards read: Guillermo Moreno — 57–57, Alan Krebs — 58–56, Marcin Pawlak — 58–56 in favor of Krnjić.
Dmytro Rybalka vs Derek Pomerleau
In the Middleweight division, Dmytro Rybalka fought against Canada’s Derek Pomerleau. The Canadian was more active and confident, sending the Ukrainian to the canvas in the second round. Ultimately, Pomerleau claimed the victory. He is widely regarded as the top boxer in the Middleweight division.
Petro Frolov vs Dylan Biggs

Also in Middleweight, Petro Frolov met Australia’s Dylan Biggs. The fight was fought at a high pace but ended in favor of the Australian. The judges’ scorecards: Glen Dawson — 59–54, Marcin Pawlak — 57–56, John Liona — 58–55, all for Biggs.
Danylo Lozan vs Sanatali Toltayev

The last Ukrainian to enter the ring was Danylo Lozan, who faced Kazakhstan’s Sanatali Toltayev in the Super Lightweight division. Lozan controlled the fight, sending his opponent to the canvas in the second round. However, in the fifth, due to a severe cut on Lozan’s forehead, the doctor stopped the fight. Judges’ scores at the time: Glen Dawson — 47–47, Guillermo Moreno — 48–46, Marcin Pawlak — 48–46, awarding the victory to Lozan.
As a result of the quarterfinals, only Danylo Lozan will continue to the WBC Grand Prix semifinals, while the tournaments ended for Tsotne Rogava, Dmytro Rybalka, and Petro Frolov. The semifinals will take place on October 20 this year.
