Terence Crawford – the first undisputed champion in three weight divisions

Last weekend in Las Vegas proved to be decisive for world boxing. At Allegiant Stadium, a historic showdown took place: the undefeated Terence “Bud” Crawford defeated Saul “Canelo” Álvarez and captured all the titles at Super Middleweight. According to official figures, the fight drew 70,482 spectators — a record for boxing in the state of Nevada and a new attendance record for Allegiant Stadium. On the same night, Ukrainian fighter Serhii Bohachuk also stepped into the ring, once again proving that Ukrainian boxers are part of the sport’s biggest global shows.

Crawford VS Canelo

Canelo entered the ring as the undisputed champion at Super Middleweight (up to 76.2 kg), with a record of 63–2–2, holding all the major belts — WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, as well as The Ring title. He was challenged by the undefeated Terence Crawford (41–0, 31 KOs), a multi-division champion who moved up in weight to take on what many considered an extraordinarily risky challenge.

The WBC gave this event special significance. The winner was awarded the commemorative belt “Nahui Huey Altepemeh”, dedicated to the Mexican state of Tlaxcala. This is part of a tradition established in 2017: special belts are created for bouts held around major Mexican holidays. The belt, crafted by artist Guadalupe Xicohténcatl, is decorated with symbols of Tlaxcala’s cosmology, blending art with the sport of boxing.

For the first time in history, the winner also received the WBC Crown Series Undisputed Championship Ring, crafted by the jewelry house Jason of Beverly Hills. The ring, made of yellow gold, is adorned with nearly ten carats of precious stones, more than eight of which are white diamonds. Its value exceeds $100,000, and its design symbolizes the WBC green belt along with the four major sanctioning bodies — WBC, WBO, WBA, and IBF.

The fight itself turned into a true test of strategies. Canelo was aggressive early, working the body, but Crawford gradually seized the initiative with his jab and sharp counterattacks. By the middle rounds, the American had taken control and never let it go until the final bell. The judges were unanimous: 116–112, 115–113, and 115–113 in favor of Crawford.

This victory made him the first boxer in history to become the undisputed champion in three weight divisions: Super Lightweight (up to 63.5 kg)Welterweight (up to 66.7 kg), and Super Middleweight (up to 76.2 kg).

Serhii Bohachuk – rematch on the Crawford VS Canelo undercard

On the undercard of the main event, Ukrainian fighter Serhii Bohachuk (26–3, 24 KOs) stepped into the ring. The former interim WBC champion has built a reputation as a dangerous knockout artist who always delivers excitement.

This time, he faced American Brandon Adams in a rematch. Their first encounter, back in March 2021, ended in Bohachuk’s defeat by knockout in the eighth round. The rematch took place as a 10-round bout in Las Vegas and, although the Ukrainian sought redemption, Adams once again proved stronger. The judges handed down a unanimous decision: 99–91, 98–92, and 98–92.

Despite the setback, this appearance once again confirmed that Bohachuk is a fighter consistently featured on some of the sport’s biggest shows. In May, he secured a win over Mykal Fox, and prior to that he stopped Ishmauel Davis on the Usyk vs. Fury undercard.

Ukrainian fans can look forward to new events ahead. On October 19, Danylo Lozan will compete in the WBC Grand Prix tournament, and on October 25 in Belgium, Yaroslav Mykhalushko and Maksym Molodan will both get their title shots, fighting for championship belts. Ukrainian boxing continues to make a loud statement on the international stage.
