Anastasiia Petrenko becomes IBO World Champion: historic victory in Belgium
Ukrainian boxer Anastasiia Petrenko (8-0, 4 KO) secured a key victory in her professional career, claiming the IBO world title. On March 28, 2026, in Herstal, Belgium, she defeated Mexico’s Maria Soledad Vargas (20-5-1, 2 KO) in a bout for the vacant Super Flyweight title.
The fight took place at Hall des sports M.Daerden, Herstal, Belgium and went the full distance — 10 rounds of 2 minutes each. Petrenko won by unanimous decision, with the judges scoring the bout Smail Alitouche — 96-94, Daniela Otten — 97-93, Jean Pierre Van Imschoot — 97-93. The referee was Jean Marie Natus.
The vacant IBO World Super Fly title was at stake, and the Ukrainian boxer made the most of her opportunity, controlling the pace of the fight and showing greater accuracy and consistency throughout most of the rounds.
This victory is historic for Ukrainian boxing, as Anastasiia Petrenko became the first Ukrainian female boxer to win an IBO world title.
At the same time, Petrenko remains an important figure within the World Boxing Council system. She currently holds the WBC Ukraine and WBC Francophone titles and is also ranked in the WBC world rankings in her weight division, confirming her strong position on the international stage.
